The Search and Rescue Tactics for Downed Aircraft & Personal Locator Beacons class teaches rescuers how to locate “Activated Distress Beacons” from a downed / crashed aircraft, Personal Locator Beacon’s and Marine EPIRB’s by using direction finding equipment. Students will participate in both the classroom and a hands-on overview of an aircraft and field scenario’s locating a live “practice” distress beacon.
Course main topics:
Detailed look into Aircraft Emergency Locator Transmitters (ELT’s), and Personal Locator Beacons (PLB’s).
Search Tactics using Radio Direction Finding Equipment, Aircraft AM Radio’s, Navigation (Maps, Compass & GPS), and the Lost Person Behavior Book.
Discuss the AFRCC, the USCG, the Civil Air Patrol (CAP), COSPAS-SARSAT Satellite System and utilizing maps with radar return and cell phone forensics.
Discuss Crash / Scene hazards, and Evidence and Legal aspects, SAR equipment and notifying the NTSB and or the FAA.
