The exercise will be based in Burke County North Carolina and utilize multiple locations to provide realistic scenarios. The Catawba Flood and Land Search Exercise is a wide area search exercise designed to test water and land search and rescue capability to mobilize, integrate, and deploy search and rescue assets in response to a large scale-flooding incident as well as lost persons in flooding and wilderness environments. The exercise will include areas to test resources in dynamic and static water rescue, wide area search, lost/missing person search in flood and wilderness environments, logistics and base of operations, communications, as well as command and control. Air and ground resources will be utilized to respond to various scenarios and provide time for debriefings to share best practices across the various response agencies. This exercise is open to instate and out of state resources as one of the main exercise objectives is to integrate response organizations across multiple jurisdictions.
